The University of Sheffield - The Ridge, Sheffield
Project Overview – Interior design of Amenity Space
Nelson and Long were appointed by the University of Sheffield to consult on the transformation of an underutilised store room into a multifunctional amenity space.
In collaboration with the client, we developed the brief to maximise the potential of this space, designing a versatile environment that caters to both students and staff. The space is now designed to accommodate meetings, one-to-ones, wellbeing activities, and TV/film screenings, providing a much-needed flexible social and communal area within the university campus.
Faced with the challenge of no natural daylight, we applied biophilic design principles to introduce greenery and enhance the sense of openness to the interior design concept. A bespoke mural wallpaper was used to create the illusion of windows, acting as a focal point to bring depth and visual impact to the space. We incorporated a rich green colour palette, layered textures, and carefully selected finishes into the full specification, promoting comfort, usability, and a strong sense of wellbeing.
An innovative, engaging environment was created to enhance the university experience for both staff and students, providing a flexible and inviting space that encourages collaboration and relaxation.
