10 Minutes with EGGER

Hey guys! It’s been while since we did a blog, but we have a real exciting one for you today. If you are a designer, specifier or developer this blog will be perfect for you and also if you love a bit of trend forecasting get your read on!

This week we have the pleasure of showcasing the wonderful company that is EGGER. If you don’t know who or what EGGER supply then you’ve come to the right place. EGGER is a leading global manufacturer of wood-based materials. Fun fact… With its two chipboard manufacturing sites located at Hexham and Auchinleck, EGGER in the UK annually  produces enough wood-based products to fill 27,500 lorry trailers. These products are supplied to businesses across the UK, who operate in the furniture, interior design and building markets.

To us though EGGER is our main supplier of laminate finishes in our projects and they have the most amazing colourful decors to choose from. Whenever one of our favourite reps, Scott Davison visits, we get super excited because we just know he’ll have some amazing products to show us, we practically gasped when he showed us the latest decor collection!

Plus we get to have a few cups of tea and some biccies and we are always much happier when we are fed and watered!

This company really seems to have nailed it with their durable, functional and aesthetically-pleasing products. If you head over to our grid and look at any of the our fitted furniture or exuberant table top colour choices the chances are that product came from this wonderful company.

Today Scott Davison (Specification Account Manager) with some help from Elliot Fairlie (UK Décor Manager) have answered a few questions for you about EGGER as a whole and have done some trend forecasting, so take it away guys…

NL: What in your opinion makes EGGER finishes one of the best on the market?

SD: The research, investments and time that goes in to creating our finishes by our décor management team combined with the continuous investments in our production processes allows us to create current and future trend finishes. Adding to this, the product mix of the same finish being available as laminate, MFC and edging allows for cost savings with no design compromise.

Not only are the décor designs themselves important, but that of the texture that goes with it, our range of Feelwood decors are a clear favourite due the deep synchronised textures that align with the décor print to make them look and feel more realistic.

Our products with a melamine resin surface are also tested according to ISO 22196 and have high anti-bacterial properties, which, in current times is becoming more important for surface materials.

Additional to the finishes themselves, the environment and sustainability are a major focus within EGGER

NL: What is the most popular coloured décor and why?

SD: We have seen the popularity of grey increase over recent years and that doesn’t seem to be a colour area that’s going anywhere soon however, as it evolves, we are now seeing the importance of warm neutral shades growing in prominence, with the topic of Taupe taking center stage.

With taupe shades, their ability to work in combination with each other, as well as other woodgrains and natural materials, makes them ideally suited to personalisation and the combination of materials and colours within design.

We expect these versatile shades to continue in popularity in the coming months.

NL: What is the most popular wood/material décor and why?

SD: The new EGGER Decorative Collection ranges from many trend driven designs, where we are seeing the popularity of classic finishes, with a modern twist making a comeback. This has seen classic wood species with a clean, linear appearance such as walnut gaining prominence, used in accents, to create a rich feel.

This can also be achieved with Scandinavian timbers in classic and lighter shades, which mix well with popular natural tones such as Taupe, as well as accent colours in a more muted direction in Blue Grey tones.

Whilst classic marble designs and materials such as linen, add that classic edge to create a modern, yet classic look.

In contrast, we are still seeing lots of authentic and rustic woods, often in contemporary design, to create accents and statements in what could otherwise be considered minimalist.

In addition to this, Industrial materials such as metals, stones and concretes continue to add interest and texture in a whole host of design applications for a highly modern look.

This is where individualisation within design can really come to life, paring these industrial materials with woodgrains and solid colours, in a considered way, for a striking and personalised feel, creates a high-end look.

NL: What trends inspired your latest 2020 décor launch?

Individualisation is key when it comes to the trends of today and this will continue to have an impact for some time to come.

With this comes the need for choice and we have seen an increase of differing styles and designs running in parallel as a result.

Whilst in the past, we were able to ‘hang our hat’ on particular tends and styles, it’s so much more difficult with the trends of today, with consumers ultimately looking for their own particular style or theme.

This is why the new EGGER Decorative Collection, launched in February, is our most comprehensive collection to date. Giving the customer choice, which is considered and offering the opportunity to develop designs and styles to meet their needs.

NL:What future décor trends does EGGER predict for 2021?

SD: The topic of Matt is certainly on the rise, where we have seen a range of solid colours in this area, particularly in Grey and dark colours, gaining prominence. This is where products such as our PerfectSense Matt can be used effectively, as it offers the perfect solution for marks that can be often visible in darker shades, due to its anti-fingerprint finish. However, on the growing theme for materials, this is also an area where we see Matt Marbles and Stones increasing in popularity and where the new designs in the PerfectSense range can come into play.
